Star Wars: The Mandalorian Spinoffs Teased by Disney

Disney is exploring the possibility of making Star Wars spinoff series based on characters from The Mandalorian.

Disney may not have settled its The Mandalorian might get its own spinoff series.

Iger made the comment while speaking to investors at a quarterly earnings meeting (via Variety), saying the company is exploring “the possibility of infusing [The Mandalorian] with more characters and taking those characters in their own direction in of series.”

With no new Star Wars movies scheduled until 2022 — a date that itself might get pushed back after The Rise of Skywalker not meeting the studio’s box office expectations (Solo became the first Star Wars movie to actually lose money). Focusing on fan-favorite characters like Obi-Wan and Mando must seem like a cakewalk in comparison.

“The priority in the next few years is television,” Iger told investors, confirming that Disney would “take a bit of a hiatus in of theatrical releases.”

As for what these potential Mandalorian spinoffs could look like, that’s anyone’s guess. The series has introduced several popular characters to the galaxy far, far away that could be easy candidates for their own shows, such as ex-Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune and Bounty Hunters’ Guild head Greef Carga. IG-11, the assassin-nanny droid voiced by Taika Waititi, is another character primed for his own adventures. And of course, there’s the entire backstory of Baby Yoda yet to be explored, although that will likely happen on the main series as opposed to a separate spinoff.

We’ll likely hear more about Star Wars‘ TV future at Celebration Anaheim this August. Until then, here’s a schedule of Star Wars movie and TV series
