Superstore Season 6 Confirmed at NBC
Attention shoppers: NBC has ordered Superstore season 6 for all your comedy needs.
Hours of operation have once again been extended for NBC‘s big box store comedy Superstore.
This is Us and New Amsterdam, both of which received three-season orders.
“We’re thrilled that Superstore continues to speak to many important and topical issues while simultaneously being hilarious,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents scripted programming at NBC, said in a statement.
Superstore is another example of unconventional success stories on modern television. The show’s traditional ratings metrics are unimpressive, sometimes bordering on abysmal. After reaching 5 million viewers on live views for its first season, the show has dropped to around 2 million in its later seasons, falling out of the top 100 ratings altogether. But as is increasingly the case, the Nielsen ratings don’t tell the full story of the show’s success. Superstore averages 3.8 million viewers in Nielsen’s live plus seven-day ratings. That number swells up to 4.1 million after four weeks. NBC also reports that Superstore is one of its most watched shows on digital platforms.
With other strong-performing NBC comedies like Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8. That’s especially so given that NBC’s new comedies for the 2019-20 season, Perfect Harmony and Sunnyside, both underperformed. There’s also the not-insignificant fact that Superstore is simply a good show, garnering extremely favorable ratings among critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes and other review metric sites.
Superstore was created by Justin Spitzer and follows the employees of a Walmart-like superstore known as Cloud 9 in St. Louis. Missouri. The show stars America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nico Santos, Nichole Bloom, Mark McKinney, and Kaliko Kauahi. The series has increasingly become known for its diverse ensemble and effective approach to the cultural and political issues surrounding labor at exploitative big box stores.
Superstore season 5 is currently airing now, with eight episodes to go in its 22-episode season.
